Paula Zustovich (Buenos Aires, 1985)

BA in Audiovisual Arts, National University of Lanus, Argentina, 2018. MG in Electronic Arts, National University of Tres de Febrero, Argentina (in progress).  My graduate thesis Democracy of Soundscape received maximum qualifications and was incorporated to the University Library.

My work connects sound with performance, experimental video and research. I’m interested in the concepts of the marginal, the occult and the transient within the realm of sound, using them as a prism to evoke thoughts on the construct of power in South American history and culture.

Since 2010 I’ve been elaborating on the idea of ‘sound territory’, as opposed to an ecological, objective and class-conciliatory concept of 'soundscape', and researching it through different media in Bogotá, Lima, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. Lately my focus has been on the sound environment of the Paranaense forest, a riparian ecosystem of biogeographical importance present in northern Argentina, east of Paraguay and southern Brazil, as a key to study the surviving culture of its native inhabitants, the Mbyá Guaraní people.
